Malawi’s intriguing cultural qualities contribute to its brilliance, and CISV takes part in portraying that! The Miles for Malawi 5k run aimed to raise money for Malawi’s education system and people. Along with the run, people were able to learn about Malawi’s cultural norms, for example, learning how to balance a basket on your head, play drums, and even get a taste of Malawian food! CISV did an excellent job in making sure that this educational experience was engaging and fun for all ages!
There were many lessons and takeaways from participating in this event! One of my personal favorites was being a cheerleader for all of the runners. I found it very motivating as being surrounded by so many positive people made it difficult not to be! Overall it was a fun and positive experience, I was able to make new friends and experience the joy of volunteering! If you didn’t participate, I strongly recommend doing so next year!
